A Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay in Canada for extended periods, offering long-term family reunification without frequent renewals.
At ImmigrantResource.ca, we simplify the process with clear, accurate guidance so you understand the requirements, prepare strong documents, and apply with confidence.
A Super Visa is different from a regular visitor visa.
While a regular Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) allows a stay of up to six months, the Super Visa grants long-term visits up to 2 years per entry, and it’s valid for up to 10 years. It’s ideal for families who want their parents or grandparents to visit without constant visa renewals.
Before applying, ensure you meet all Government of Canada eligibility requirements:
🔴 Relationship Proof
You must be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. (Spouses or common-law partners may be included in the same application.)
🔴 Letter of Invitation
You’ll need an invitation letter from your child or grandchild in Canada that includes:
➲ A promise of financial support for your stay.
➲ Details of household size.
➲ A copy of their Canadian citizenship or PR card.
🔴 Minimum Income Requirement (MNI)
Your host in Canada must meet a minimum income threshold, verified with their Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 forms.
🔴 Medical Insurance
You must purchase private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that:
➲ Is valid for at least 1 year.
➲ Covers a minimum of $100,000 CAD.
➲ Provides proof of full payment (quotes aren’t accepted).
🔴Medical Exam
You may be required to undergo a medical examination to prove good health.
🔴Intent to Leave Canada
You must prove to the visa officer that you’ll return home at the end of your authorized stay.
